Kolby Oakley takes the stage. He picks up his custom built electric guitar with his name proudly displayed on the fretboard and steps up to the microphone. In the first 10 seconds of the show, you are astonished by the polished and unique tone of his voice as well as his ability to play guitar. Much like many acclaimed artists, Oakley was raised in a musical home. His father, Steve Oakley, sang in modern rock and blues bands. His mother, Kim Oakley, played bass guitar and his Uncle, Craig Oakley, was a well-known jazz drummer and drum instructor that played with multiple reputable artists such as The Beach Boys and Bob Hope.
After years of playing on his father’s drum kit, at the young age of 8, Kolby began drumming for his parent’s modern rock band, Interstate. Kolby later played drums for other groups performing blues, punk rock, country, and classic rock. During his time as a drummer, Kolby had also been teaching himself to play guitar. After the passing of his great grandmother in 2007, Kolby wrote his first song and continued to write. Kolby started to play his own acoustic shows at 14 years old. He joined a local country band Honeystruck at 16 years old and played in his fathers blues band, Smokehouse Blues, all as a guitarist. By the age of 17, Kolby resigned all bands and set out on his own adventure forming his own project, The Kolby Oakley Band. Performing modern and classic country songs as well as many of his own original songs he began to gain a following and was getting great response from his original music. In his first two released singles, Kolby, himself, recorded vocals, played drums, bass guitar, rhythm guitar, lead guitar, six string banjo, and piano.
